Alliance for the University for Peace
Support Foundation for UPEACE
In 2002, the University for Peace became one of the beneficiaries of the Dutch Postcode Lottery. Because UPEACE is a foreign institution, a Dutch foundation was established, called the Alliance for UPEACE. Initially based at Tilburg University, it later relocated to Rotterdam before moving to its current headquarters in The Hague. In the intervening years the Alliance has organised several events in the Netherlands in pursuit of the goals laid down in its statutes:
- to support the activities of the University for Peace; and
- to promote cooperation between the University for Peace and other institutes and institutions.
In 2012, the Postcode Lottery and UPEACE formed a direct partnership, thus ending the role of the Alliance for UPEACE as an intermediary. In mid-2011, however, the Rector of UPEACE invited the Board of the Alliance to continue their activities and open a centre in The Hague, in line with the outcome of a comprehensive feasibility study conducted in 2008. This process led to the establishment of the UPEACE Centre The Hague. In the start-up phase the new centre will be governed by the Board of the Alliance.
Former activities of the Alliance for UPEACE include:

The Dutch tax authorities have recognised the Alliance for UPEACE as an official charity (algemeen nut beogende instelling, ANBI). This entitles the Alliance to charity tax concessions and makes gifts to it tax-deductible.
