In 1998, Kramers joined the EU/Benelux office of the UN refugee agency UNHCR in Brussels, Belgium, as its Spokesperson and Public Information Officer, and later moved to the Brussels EU representation of the UN Children’s Fund UNICEF in 2012 to become their Communications Expert.
Kramers returned to journalism in 2013 as a Brussels-based EU correspondent for Dutch press agencies ANP and Novum, and for Devex, a US-based agency for development cooperation professionals. During 2008-2012, he was also chief editor of Oekraïne Magazine, a Dutch publication devoted to Ukrainian affairs.
A move back to communication affairs in 2015 brought him to the Brussels office of Dutch communications agency Schuttelaar & Partners as a Senior PR Consultant to work on sustainability communication.
Diederik Kramers studied history at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
He is married and has two children.
